After trying the "tile method" of flattening stones, I decided to get an alternative form for both cleaning and flattening my stones. I paid Best Sharpening Stones a visit and ordered an Ultra Sharp 2 diamond plate 600 grit which cost me $24.90 shipped which is pretty cool. This diamond plate can be used for a number of things including raising a slurry from the stone itself with nothing added:
